JORGE ACOSTA, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in bariatric (weight loss) surgery. Dr. Acosta began practicing at Del Sol Medical Center in 2004, after completing a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He was one of the first fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons in El Paso and is a medical director of Las Palmas Del Sol Bariatric Clinic.

Dr. Acosta received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University. He then received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston before completing his residency in general surgery at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso. Dr. Acosta is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the Southwest Association of Hispanic American Physicians, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.

MICHAEL LARA, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in bariatric (weight loss) surgery. Dr. Lara began practicing at Del Sol Medical Center in 2004, after completing a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery from the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was one of the first fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons in El Paso and is a medical director for the Las Palmas Del Sol Bariatric Clinic.

Dr. Lara received his undergraduate degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He then received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston before completing his residency in general surgery at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso. Dr. Lara is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the Texas Medical Association and the Southwest Association of Hispanic American Physicians.
